Today I will analyze a game of UEFA Nations League, Netherlands and Italy!

Netherlands and Italy lock horns on Sunday in the third place play-off of the 2022-23 edition of the UEFA Nations League.

Netherlands made the semifinals twice in three attempts. They reached the finals in the inaugural 2018-19 season, lost by a solitary goal to Portugal.

The Oranje dugout had high hopes this time with the game playing in their own backyard. But the visiting Croats had other plans. Despite taking the lead, Ronald Koeman’s men failed to control the match and gave it away in the second half before Noa Lang’s late goal stretched the game to extra time. It was all Croatia from then, struck twice to grab the game by a 4-2 scoreline.

On the other hand, Italy lost 1-2 to Spain in the semifinal for a second consecutive season. It was a closely contested affair despite La Roja keeping 69% of the ball possession, something they always do.

Roberto Mancini’s team is in a transitional phase and they’re eager to win a trophy for a much-needed morale boost before the Euro 2024 qualifiers later this year.

Italy is unbeaten in the last 7 meetings against the Netherlands, 3 wins and 4 draws.The Gli Azzurri were victorious in their last 2 visits to this country.

The last meeting between the teams happened in the previous edition of the Nations League. Italy won 1-0 in the Netherlands before settling for a 1-1 draw in front of their home fans.

We see that the AH of this game was only 0.25, barely giving the Netherlands a slight advantage in the home game. However, we believe that such an AH has already explained everything and we do not have confidence in the Netherlands.
